In recent months, I've been hooked on hibiscus tea. You may have already tried this calming sweet dreams herbal sleep tea and saw the beautiful ruby color that hibiscus offers in every cup. I simply can't get enough of this gorgeous dried flower.
This is why I wanted to share my simple daytime hibiscus tea recipe that I drink nearly every day. I like making a big batch and sipping on it all day.

What Are The Benefits Of Drinking Hibiscus Tea?
Hibiscus contains natural anti-oxidants, beta carotene, anthocyanin, and vitamins. It also helps to reduce blood pressure and blood sugar, improves digestion, relieves menstrual pain, aids in weight loss, and improves the immune system.
In addition to these benefits, the potential of hibiscus tea for weight loss lies in its ability to boost metabolism and promote fat loss, making it an excellent addition to a healthy diet and lifestyle. Incorporating hibiscus tea into your routine allows you to enjoy its delicious flavor while reaping its numerous health advantages.
How Does Hibiscus Improve Digestion
Hibiscus can improve digestion by normalizing bowel movements as well as help with detoxifying the liver, which is essential for proper digestion. It's also a mild diuretic, which helps to move toxins out of the body. Hibiscus is also anti-spasmodic which is particularly good for those suffering from IBS.
Does Cinnamon Increase Metabolism?
Cinnamon is often overlooked as one of the most impressive spices. Not only does it taste delicious but it has a thermogenic effect on the body. Cinnamon contains an essential oil called cinnamaldehyde that triggers thermogenesis. This causes the body to produce heat and burn calories. And if you want another metabolism boosting drink, try my cinnamon infused apple cider vinegar.
How Hibiscus Benefits Skin
One of the greatest benefits of drinking hibiscus tea is on our skin. It naturally allows collagen production because it's loaded with vitamin C. It also helps to slow the breakdown of collagen. In addition, hibiscus helps to support the skin's natural elasticity.
About This Metabolism Boosting Hibiscus Cinnamon Orange Tea
- It's perfect any time of day
- Requires just a few ingredients
- Can be customized
- It's great for your skin
Ingredients Needed
- Hibiscus flower - you can find dried hibiscus flowers online which gives the tea its beautiful red color.
- Cinnamon sticks - you can use cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon. Either will work.
- Orange Peel - dried orange peel is convenient to have on hand, but if you have fresh orange, use a peeler and add a few peels to your cup or tea vessel.
Instructions
Step 1. Add 1 tablespoon hibiscus flowers, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 teaspoons dried orange peels, or 2-3 slices of orange peel to a pitcher or large mason jar.
Step 2. Add boiling water and give everything a stir. Let the hibiscus tea steep for 5-10 minutes, or longer if you wish.
Step 3. Strain and enjoy!
HINT: If you're using fresh orange, use a peeler to peel as much as you'd like - ideally 2-3 peels.
Equipment
It really is a personal choice but I love using a large tea pitcher that holds 4 or more cups of tea. I find making a big batch and drinking it all day (hot or cold) to be quite convenient. If a tea pitcher is too much, you can always use a single serve mug and use a mesh tea steeper.
Top Tip - The longer you let the tea steep, the more benefit you will derive out of the herbs.
Variations
Green Tea - for an extra metabolism boost, add a bag of green tea to your cup or pitcher. If you're sensitive to caffeine, use decaf.
Holy Basil - another herb I love using in this combination is holy basil. Holy basil is a "probable" adaptogen as it lowers blood sugar, and helps to reduce inflammation while helping the body adapt to stress.

FAQ
When it comes to herbal tea, you can use more or less, whatever you'd like. So feel free to experiment if you want more hibiscus or less, more cinnamon etc.
Loose hibiscus is relatively easy to find in healthfood stores or online. You can also find it in herbal stores. Alternatively you can also use hibiscus tea bags.
Most definitely. ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon (or more) works really well and gives the tea a nice earthy taste.
You can find dried orange peel online or just use a few peels from an orange. Both will give the tea a nice flavor.
